Go by foot in Waterloo
Living Streets is teaming up with City of London to present 'Walk to Waterloo', a walking led event organised as part of European Mobility Week on the 22 September.
This exciting event will encourage people to enjoy the aesthetically pleasing walk from St Pauls to Waterloo along the Thames, and offer an alternative to taking 'the drain' tube link between Bank and Waterloo. Meeting at St Pauls Cathedral, sign in begins from 5pm onwards and the event kicks off at 6pm.
Walk leaders will point out areas of interest along the route, which will take walkers along embankment and then across the Thames at Waterloo Bridge. A free bag filled with a map, umbrella, Clif Bar, and other goodies will be given to the first 500 people who arrive at St Paul's Cathedral on the day.
European Mobility Week (16-22 September) is an awareness raising campaign aimed at advocating the use public transport, cycling and walking by citizens and encouraging European cities to promote and invest in these modes of transport.
With nearly 8 out of 10 adults not getting the recommended amount of daily exercise, Living Streets encourages people of all ages to utilise their local streets and get walking. The benefits of walking are extensive, from the reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes to lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
The government recommend 30 minutes of moderate daily exercise, which will be achieved on 22nd September if you join us to walk to Waterloo. By joining in you will also be doing your bit for the environment. The amount of CO2 saved by walking instead of travelling by tube is 0.15kg, by bus 0.26 and by car 0.51.
