Accessibility statementThere are over 10 million disabled people in the UK. Many find it difficult to find information, shop or book services online because most websites are not accessible. Living Streets’ Walking Works website was designed by Activate Media to achieve the highest levels of accessibility as defined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) (external link, opens new browser window) by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) (external link, opens new browser window). It has also been validated as XHTML 1.0 Transitional (external link, opens new browser window) and the stylesheets meet the W3C's Cascading Stylesheets (external link, opens new browser window) level 2 specification. These are industry standards, and by designing our website to meet these standards most users, including users of assistive technologies, should find it straightforward to navigate around and use our website. Navigation aidsA number of features on our website make it easier for you to find what you want:
LinksMany links have Title attributes which describe the destination of the link in greater detail. Title attributes are not included if the link already fully describes the where the link goes to; for example, the headline of a news story. Wherever possible links are written to make sense out of context, so that you do not have to read the surrounding text to understand where the link will take you. You will always be warned if clicking on a link opens a file or website in a new browser window. The warning is either contained in the link itself, the Title attribute or in the text immediately after the link. ImagesAll graphics and images in our website have an alternative text (ALT) attribute that describes the contents or function of the image. This description will be displayed when images are turned off, on a text-only browser or as a ‘tool tip’ in certain browsers when the mouse pointer is moved over the image. Visual designA number of elements have been included in the design of the website to make it easier for everyone to use:
ExceptionsWhilst Walking Works strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall accessibility. In the meantime should you experience any difficulty in accessing the Walking Works website, please don’t hesitate to contact us. |
