Record numbers step out for Walk to Work Week

Well done and thank you to everyone that took part in Living Streets' second annual Walk to Work Week (26-30 April 2010) and making it such a huge success. Over 10,000 of you signed up to take part, and collectively walked a grand total of 71,602 miles during the Week. That's five times around the world at London's latitude, 11,671 Kg of CO2 saved, and an incredible 19,889 muffins burned off!

Here's what some of our Walk to Work Week participants said about the event:

"Walk to Work Week has motivated and encouraged me to leave the car at home and I find that my morning walk sets me up for the day, I am less stressed due to not having been stuck in the usual rush hour traffic. My walk home is a time to wind down and 'power walk' out any stress built up during the day."
Kathy, Family Mosaic, Colchester

"Having worked in previous jobs where I've had to spend an hour driving to and from work, I really appreciate the way walking wakes me up in the morning and unwind in the evening. And at walking speed you really notice things around you that driving doesn't allow."
Ian, The Co-operative Group Marketing, Manchester

"We had a great time doing Walk to Work Week. Once on our feet we all agreed that you see things that you would not see if on wheels. You also become full of information before the start of your day while walking along."
Joanna, St Thomas Hospital, London

"I'm delighted that so many employees at Provident took part in Walk to Work Week, and as we're moving to our new head office in the autumn there's never been a better time for us to start thinking about using greener, more sustainable ways of travelling to work. This is the first year Provident has taken part in Walk to Work Week and it turned out to be a great success with everyone who took part commenting on how much they enjoyed being more active, and are looking forward to next years event."
Adam, Provident Financial, Bradford

"The week gave me the encouragement I needed to actually put into practice the thoughts I had often had about leaving the car behind and getting some fresh air and exercise."
Kevin Ayres, Luton

"I am very pleased to be a Walk to Work Week FitFlop sandals winner and really enjoyed taking part. I've continued to walk to and from work since the event and am feeling a lot healthier and I've even managed to lose a few pounds!"
Amanda Hatch, Luton

"It was really nice to discover a new way of starting the day by walking to South Kensington Station, and discovering new places in my neighbourhood while giving me the chance to start the day with a fresh mind."
David Vazquez-Rossainz, London

"I really enjoy walking to and from work. Walking there helps me collect my thoughts and to focus on the day ahead and walking home allows me to clear my head of work and look forward to relaxing."
Joanne Li, Nottingham
